Productivity Commission Report - A Better Way to Support Veterans

In March 2018, the Prime Minister announced that the Productivity Commission was to inquire into whether the system of compensation and rehabilitation for veterans (Serving and Ex-serving Australian Defence Force members) is fit for purpose, now and into the future.

The Report

The report of the inquiry – A Better Way to Support Veterans – was sent to Government on 27 June 2019 and released publicly on 04 July 2019.

The report sets out the Commission’s findings and recommendations on a better way to support veterans.

The key message of this report is that despite recent improvements to the system, the current veterans’ compensation and rehabilitation system requires fundamental reform.

Productivity Commission Implementation Update

On 14 May 2021, the Government provided an update on its response to the Productivity Commission Report, A Better Way to Support Veterans. The Government will finalise any outstanding matters from the Productivity Commission report at the completion of the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
