The Defence Force Welfare Association (DFWA) regularly conducts surveys of its membership and beyond to better understand the experiences and sentiment of current and former serving members and their families. These surveys provide the lived experience basis for submissions that we make.
DFWA is a Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal (DFRT) “Authorised Intervener”. This status gives DFWA permission to make representations to the Tribunal on matters concerning ADF pay and conditions.
The ADF Offer
The ADF and Government have agreed to present the following Offer to the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal in September 2026 for its consideration:
- A 3 per cent pay increase from payday on 19 November 2026 to cover the initial one-year period.
- Defence will later present a supplementary joint submission to the DFRT covering the further 2 years of the WRA period.
This is a marked departure from usual three-year arrangement, with Defence saying it gives
“more time to consider workforce factors, including recruiting and retention rates, economic indicators, and the Government’s Australian Public Service pay policy”
